If you’ve spent any time on this site, you’ll notice a distinct lack of male faces amongst the work I’ve been involved in. Clearly, I’m the kind of person to always offer some just-below-the-surface insight into exactly why something like this would occur. Oh my god! Ulterior motives!! However, to be completely honest, there are no explanations for this dearth of masculinity other than; I just don’t get approached to work on images of men all that often.

So I jumped at the chance to work with Adrian Mesko, who was shooting a couple of images for GQ Australia. It was a lightning fast job which, for anyone who works in post knows, is always preferable; you don’t have time to second guess anything. You just commit to a look and finish it. The selects I received were incredible and really, made my job pretty easy.

Post processing for men is such a different experience; you’re looking to highlight the exact opposite of what you’re searching for in a female face. It’s absolutely all about scaling back, and making sure all the obvious, most defined masculine features stay at the forefront. Featuring in GQ Australia’s 2010 Man of the Year issue, the printing is impeccable and I’m really happy with the final result. On another note, I’m sad to say I wasn’t shortlisted for GQ’s Man of the Year, and appear to, yet again, have been overshadowed by Jason Stackhouse’s abs.
